📋 About This Mod
Though niche, Adroit Caster is an interesting feature, that is unfortunately bugged.
Here is what it says it does:
Cantrips targeting foes and allies can target an additional creature. The same target can be chosen twice. Usable once per short rest.
Cantrips require the targets to be close together, unless those cantrips are projectiles.
Here is what it actually does:
- Projectile cantrips can target an additional creature: OK
- Ranged target cantrips are set to target 2 creatures, regardless of their intended number of targets : NOT OK
- Ranged target cantrips are set to become 6m wide AoEs : NOT OK
- Melee target cantrips are set to to target 2 creatures, regardless of their intended number of targets : NOT OK
- Melee target cantrips are set to become 2m wide AoEs : OK
What this mod does:
- Projectile cantrips can target an additional creature. (unchanged)
- Target ranged cantrips can target an additional creature. (now is an actual +1, no AoE)
- (Regular version) Melee target cantrips are set to become 2m wide AoEs. (unchanged, but removed the enforced 2 targets)
- (No AoE version) Melee target cantrips can target an additional creature. (mutually exclusive with the above, choose a file)
Because there was some funny and overpowerd business to do with the vanilla version, I am inclined to remove the cooldown, but I leave that choice up to you, with one file having the short rest cooldown, and one with no cooldown.
There are two version about melee cantrips as well, one where they have a 2m AoE, one where they target +1 creature. Each comes with or without cooldown.
It is still a toggle even in the no cooldown version so you have control of your melee cantrips notably, like Shocking Grasp, which can hit allies.
It is additionally available as a feat.
This small gameplay mod fixes the Adroit Caster perk to work as described and makes it available as a feat. With 26 endorsements and 742 downloads, it's a niche fix for players who want the perk to function properly. Last updated October 2025.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Tiny but focused fix—does exactly what it says on the tin.
- Active author (last updated October 2025) so it's fresh.
- Low download-to-endorsement ratio (742/26) suggests it works for those who grab it.
⚠️ Cons
- Very niche—only affects one perk, so most players won't need it.
- Only 26 endorsements—community hasn't widely validated it yet.
For players who specifically use the Adroit Caster perk and want it to work as the tooltip promises. Skip if you don't use that perk or want broader gameplay changes.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Check if your game version matches the mod's update date (October 2025) to avoid compatibility issues.
- If you're using other perk overhaul mods, load this one after them to ensure the fix takes priority.
- Since it's a simple fix, you can manually drop the files into your mod folder if you prefer not to use a mod manager.
