STORY OF THE BLACK LEDGER :

We do not know the exact date of their desertion. In the Royal Navy records, three names simply cease to appear. No trial. No hanging. Just a void.

They were sailors of the British Crown, disciplined, skilled in violence, accustomed to obedience. Their initial goal was nothing extraordinary :  get to Nassau, vanish into the mayhem, survive by smuggling and opportunism. They had no flag, no cause, only the ambition to survive outside the chains.

Malcolm Crowe, the leader :

Malcolm was already a leader even before he deserted.

Brutal, methodical, unable to feel regret, he understood early on that romantic piracy was a lost cause. For him, the sea was nothing more than a battlefield, and men were resources to be exploited or eliminated.

He doesn't often raise his voice. He doesn't need to. His reputation precedes him. Those who have seen Crowe at work speak of a man who never acts out of anger, but always to get the job done. He calculates, observes, then decides. Definitively.

He is the first to understand that Nassau is just a facade, and that the real forces of the world operate in the shadows.

Caleb Briggs, the dealmaker :

Caleb gives a false impression. With his frail build and calm, almost kind appearance, many took him for a lowly middleman. Few lived long enough to realise their mistake.

Caleb is the brain of the group. He manages the supply routes, contacts, bribes, "lost" cargo and discretely laundered money. Where Malcolm enforces, Caleb negotiates.

And where Malcolm destroys, Caleb rebuilds an even stronger organisation.

He is no less calculating than Crowe, simply less prone to violence. Not because of moral principles, but because he knows that a living man who owes him a debt is sometimes worth more than a dead body.

Silas Black, the enforcer :

Silas doesn't ask questions. He never seeks to lead, nor to understand political or financial issues. He obeys. Always.

A former sailor turned shadow, Silas is the enforcer. When a witness becomes dangerous, when a partner hesitates, when a problem refuses to go away, Silas is sent in.

They say he strikes quickly, without ceremony, and leaves nothing behind, no body, no unnecessary rumours.

His loyalty to Malcolm is absolute. Some say he owes him his life. Others say he simply found a master worthy of his violence.

One thing is certain : Silas has already faced an Assassin. And those who speak of it lower their voices. The killing was said to have been lon
