📋 About This Mod
Seamlessly fixes the drastic oversight of adding 400+ collectibles to a game with no mercy system or way of tracking which ones you got. DirectX10.
Better Collection and Optional Mercy System (BCOMS) is a seamless, lightweight .asi script that uses the native map renderer and compass (compass by proximity, world map always (for all cases, must be an unlocked area)) in order to inject reused icons on the coordinates of both the flag (0x18 - flag investigation collectible) and Templar (0x19 - assassination investigation target) collectibles. Does not inject into already collected flags and Templars -- only displays what you still need to collect.
Incl. optional mercy system that gives you control over at what point you want the collectibles to show up (recommended: 50% collected). Inspired by Assassin's Creed: Revelations' much kinder collectible system.
No new assets, works retroactively, should work with custom .forge files so long as any flag or map coordinates (internally, the cell blocks) are not changed (display will be wrong if they are changed).
DISCLAIMERS
How to Use
Download and drop both the .asi and the .ini into the SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Assassins Creed\scripts.
Within the .ini you can customize the mercy system rules; off by default. Contained within are:
- Automatic Activation (always on?) // default: 1 (yes)
- Collectible Filter (Flags & Templars; Flags; Templars) // default: 0 (Flags & Templars)
- Mercy System: Flags (% of flags collected) // default: 0 (disabled)
- Mercy System: Acre (pooled or separate) // default: 1 (shared pool) // does nothing if Mercy System is disabled
- Mercy System: Templars (% of Templars killed) // default: 0 (disabled)
- Memory Gating (show inaccessible flags?) // default: 1 (do not show)
- Flag Detection Range (units from player) // default: 0 (infinite)
- Templar Detection Range (units from player) // default: 0 (infinite)
- Debug (hotkeys and active changes) // default: 0 (off)
- Diagnostics (log files) // default: 0 (off)
Note for Testing
I was not able to test whether or not viewpoints reveal the icons or not because it seems kind-of trivial to me -- this is a tool for the late game where I figure people have all the viewpoints already. Please confirm if it does get covered, because that was the intent.
Content Awareness
Some A. I. assistance (primarily Codex) was used in the making of this. AC1's Scimitar is a game engine I am not familiar with (I've mostly worked in Unreal and Unity). Concept, design, data-crawling, active data extraction and integration were all done by me, with the data extraction portion through the use of Cheat Engine 7. 6 at the guidance of Codex.
Permissions and Clarifications
I will not be providing updates to accommodate for DirectX9.
This was a passion project and I don't even really like Assassin's Creed (2008) all that much. I just love the series. HOWEVER, full permission is given for anyone to adapt my mod to function for DirectX9, so long as they give credit to this mod page. No monetization permissions are granted for anyone building off of this, nor will I monetize it due to the use of coding agents (large language models; Codex Sol and Astra). That being said, endorsements are always appreciated.
This took a lot of work -- about a week or two of it. If you find success with this, please let me know.
Please note that I do not tag this mod with "AI-generated content" as no assets were created using generative AI. Please correct me if this is a wrong assumption about the tag.
