ALIEN LOST AND FOUND - VHS RESHADE PRESET

This reshade preset for Alien: Isolation aims to recreate the visuals and artifacts of VHS tapes to enhance the atmosphere of the game's cassette-futuristic aesthetic. Two versions are available: a faux 4:3 resolution one that remains accurate to the standard VHS aspect ratio by adding black bars (AlienLAF_Faux43.ini), and a 16:9/actual 4:3 aspect ratio alternative for those who prefer to play in 16:9 ( AlienLAF_169.ini) or would rather play in actual 4:3 resolution through in-game settings (recommended).

There are minor drawbacks to the faux 4:3 resolution version of the preset, as the usage of black bars can occlude some important UI information such as your health or bullets remaining. This is why playing in actual 4:3 is highly recommended, but not a necessary step. You can choose to sacrifice the additional information for a more immersive experience or play in the intended resolution of 1440x1080 (or lower) for a smoother experience.

1. Install ReShade onto Alien Isolation from the executable file for the game.

2. When prompted to select effects to install, instead click on the "browse" button at the bottom of the installer and select the AlienLAF_169.ini or AlienLAF_Faux43.ini files provided.

3. Click "next".

4. Copy the reshade-shaders folder provided, then paste it in the Alien Isolation root folder (the same one where the executable for the game is located, you will see that there is already a folder with that same name. Simply paste and replace.)

5. Disable FILM GRAIN and CHROMATIC ABHERRATION in Alien Isolation's graphics settings (in-game).

6. (Optional) In your GPU's driver settings, enable GPU scaling and set it to "preserve aspect ratio", then change Alien's in-game resolution to 1440x1080 or 1280x960. This step is not required if you're using the faux 4:3 version of the preset, or if you're playing on an actual 4:3 monitor.

7.  You can set reshade to performance mode to save on performance.
